Topic 1 isn’t really a topic in itself so much as the foundations that will be assumed to be in place for every topic that follows. It covers the key skills you need to know regarding units of measurement and prefixes that are used to increase or decrease the size of a unit. It also covers number formats, both standard form and significant figures.

But why would you want to extend this document? Because you also need to understand the principles of Working Scientifically. These are covered in the CGP Complete Revision and Practice book, pages 2 – 17. Please make sure that you read these pages and you’re familiar with everything covered in that section.
As is always the case when trying to improve your learning, there is no better way of reinforcing these facts by writing your own summary notes – and you might choose to do that by extending your downloaded copy of the SP1 Specification.
